Crown & Cutz
“Grand Opening Pressure”
Three months later…
Crown & Cutz turned the whole neighborhood upside down.
The shop stays packed from open to close.
Music bumpin’.
Clippers humming.
Women laughing in Tonya’s section.
Kids begging their mamas for “a Toby fade.”
And folks coming from every side of Memphis just to sit in one of them luxury chairs.
“Boy I ain’t never seen a shop this clean in my life.”
“Girl it’s real luxurious in here.”
“Nah fr… Crown & Cutz different different.”
Now Toby and Tonya getting ready for the official Grand Opening Celebration after spending months remodeling and upgrading the shop.
Tonya wants EVERYTHING perfect.
Balloon walls.
Food trucks.
Ribbon cutting.
Local radio station broadcasting live.
Free hairstyles for single mothers.
Free haircuts for kids before school.
And even the mayor might stop by.
“This is our moment, baby,” Tonya says smiling while reviewing decorations.
But pressure starts building fast.
Especially after a flashy barber across town named Rico starts feeling threatened.
“Man please,” Rico snaps inside his own half-empty shop. “They ain’t all that. Folks just caught up in the hype.”
Rico starts spreading slick rumors online saying Crown & Cutz overpriced and fake bougie.
Soon the comments start rolling in.
“They switched up already.”
“Used to be for the community.”
“Now everybody need appointments and deposits.”
Toby almost loses it reading the reviews.
“Man these folks don’t even KNOW us!”
Tonya grabs his phone.
“Stop arguing online. That’s exactly what they want.”
But things get even messier when Tonya’s cousin Diamond suddenly shows up at the shop with nowhere to stay.
Fresh nails.
Designer bag.
Big personality.
And drama following right behind her.
“Cousin PLEASE,” Diamond says dramatically. “I just need a little job till I get back on my feet.”
Tonya softens immediately.
But Toby gives her that look.
“Baby… everybody can’t come into the business.”
Diamond overhears him too.
“Oh wow. So family ain’t family no more?”
Now tension inside the shop getting thick.
Then two days before the Grand Opening disaster hits.
A pipe bursts overnight inside the building.
Water floods half the salon.
Extensions ruined.
Product boxes soaked.
Barber stations damaged.
Tonya stands in the middle of the floor trying not to cry.
“Why now, Lord…”
Toby exhausted too, but he grabs her hands.
“Nah. We ain’t come this far to fold now.”
The whole neighborhood starts showing love.
Customers bringing fans and towels.
Old men helping rip wet carpet out.
Beauticians volunteering chairs.
Even Mr. Walter pulling up early with his old toolbox.
“Aye,” he says smiling, “real businesses ain’t built when it’s easy.”
Now Toby and Tonya got less than 48 hours to save the Grand Opening…
Can Crown & Cutz pull off the biggest event of their lives?
Or will stress, jealousy, and pressure shut the dream down before it truly begins?
Because sometimes right before the blessing gets BIGGER…
the battle gets louder.
